Empowering Rhode Island donors to not only give, but give well
Client: Rhode Island Foundation
Project Details
I've had a relationship with the Rhode Island Foundation that spans more than ten years. Back with my former employer, Envision, I led a redesign engagement from inception to implementation that included project discovery and goals defining, information architecture, wireframes, designs, and development.
User-experience and content strategy played a foundational role in the new website. Using insights from analytics and user tracking, we were able to significantly reduce the amount of pages (as compared to the previous website) by more than half. By eliminating the clutter, we were able to create a simple, yet beautiful website with clear, concise, and engaging messaging.

Hey, I’m Nick Merrill, a multi-disciplinary designer from just southwest of Boston, Massachusetts. After 18 years working for 4 different digital agencies, I decided to launch my own independent career. This opened the door for me to provide agency expertise at freelance pricing.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with a diverse collection of clients like HBO and the Boston Bruins, to Community Foundations and Local Nonprofits. I’ve designed and collaborated on well-over 100 websites and applications. Through it all, what I enjoy most is fusing design and technology to create engagement, build a user connection, and tell a story.
Outside of work, I’m a lucky dad and husband with hobbies that include woodworking, boating, golfing, craft brewing, Scrabble playing, and being a big fan of Boston sports teams.
Client Experience
Nick's expertise in web design is truly remarkable, but what sets him apart is his strategic mindset and collaborative approach. Nick goes beyond just creating visually appealing websites; he actively engages with us in strategic discussions, ensuring that our digital presence aligns perfectly with our goals.
June Landry, KLR, Partner & Chief Marketing Officer
"Nick manages to find the sweet spot for every client. It’s either an uncanny knack or down to his years of experience. We like working with Nick because we have confidence in his design integrity, and that results in fewer rounds of changes and a higher quality end product."
